How to use Facebook for business? Let’s see some ideas.

Facebook is a huge web tool, and is gobbling up a large part of the internet. You might have noted the shift lately. Instead of giving their URLs on TV, companies are now asking users to follow them on Facebook. Can this power help you?

    Fan page v/s profile page

On an average, people use Facebook for personal communication rather than business purposes. And for that purpose, they have their profile page. But a business page has to stand out. This is why you must create a fan page for it. It is the official page for your company.
And then there are Facebook groups. Facebook Fan Marketing would advise you not to use a group, because they are outdated and don’t use FBML (Facebook Markup Language). Also, they don’t support apps so they aren’t highly interactive. Don’t create a profile page for your business. A profile page is for people. Businesses need a fan page. For instant social credibility, you could try buying facebook likes.

    Easy to Identify

Now that you have started making a page, use a title that is catchy and memorable. Because you can’t change it later, so think of a good name. This name should relate to your business, and shouldn’t be some funny character that doesn’t reflect your industry.

When your page gets famous and you get 25 fans, setup a username that allows reaching your profile easier. You should use this username for your fan page and not your profile page.

    Customize it

After making a fan page, you have to customize it. Start by uploading a profile pic for the fan page. The maximum size that Facebook allows is 200 X 600 pixels, so make use of this space wisely (some people say that 180 X 540 also works great). Facebook lets you fill some data in the fan page information. Be creative there and write things that people are looking for. It will help them understand your business and connect to it.
If you want to be more creative, you can build the page using FBML. But you would have to learn FBML for this purpose, and it will take some time. You can use some readymade apps to save time.

    Offer deals

How do you attract more people to your page? One simple way to do this is by offering great deals. Offer special deals on your products to people who are on your Facebook fan page. For example, you can give some coupon codes to your fans, and they can save money whenever they purchase your products. Don’t use the same codes for Twitter. Keep these codes just for your Facebook followers. It has been observed that Facebook offer deals attract a lot of new fans.

    Encourage interaction

Ask them about their shopping experience. They would write about how much money they saved due to your coupons. This would promote others to use your coupons. This could go viral and more people would want to join your fan page.
But even if you don’t offer coupons, let them share their experiences. Comment back on their posts, so that they can feel more connected to your page.

These were some tips on how to use Facebook for business. What types of methods are you following to popularize your business using Facebook? Share them here with others so that others can learn from you. Also, you can connect to others using this blog. Sharing is the best!
